My top tips on being productive
If you couldn’t already tell, I’m not riding on a productivity wave right now. Overall I’ve found my motivation levels have been significantly lower in the past month than they’ve been all year, and I’d pin the cause down to a couple of factors, starting back to school being one of them. Since I’m really trying to work on being more motivated this month, I thought I’d collate some routines that I’m trying to kick procrastination and that unmotivated feeling!
GET RID OF DISTRACTIONS
If your text messages are going nuts, then mute the conversations. If watching Netflix is much more appealing than working, get up and go work at a public place. Whatever is your procrastination sweet spot, attempt to forget about it. For me this is wanting to check Instagram, facebook, twitter, buzzfeed, People.com, etc. In my least productive moments this is a cycle that I repeat all day long. So instead I’m trying to keep it turned on silent, upside down and check on it only when I actually deserve a break.
In the summer, I’ve started ticking through my to-do lists each week and found that I had so many tasks that remained unfinished which really bothers me. I finally just decided that I had to start saying no to campaigns and carve out more time in my schedule to be more sociable. If you feel unmotivated, like you need to nap for 24 hours and like you’re spreading yourself too thin, this is the point to start with.
The world isn’t going to end if I don’t post content and actually it’s nice to have a break, to refresh and to have a chance to think about what’s happened, where I’m at and what I want to post about. I made a list of my own treats. One of my favorites is a visit to the library. I love keeping a log of books I want to read, looking up the call numbers and wandering through the stacks to pick them out. I view sleep as a big treat, which is why I don’t hate the idea of going to bed earlier, the way some people do. For me, it’s a luxury. Also, getting to sit down and have a cup of coffee while watching a new documentary on Netflix. As far as treats go, this is one of my favorites to indulge in. Because I know that there’s a break on the horizon ,it will force me to knuckle down and churn out some good posts.
