Text Tuesday: Resting Mad Face

Text Tuesday: Resting Mad Face

My sister and I were having a conversation a couple of weeks ago about how people always think that we are mad when we can be as happy as can be. Then, my sister found an article about something called Resting Bitch Face online and apparently it is a real thing. The idea behind it is that when you are not smiling, people think that you are mad because of how your face rests. I have developed a fake smile that I use and a response to people that ask me about my mood. In my pictures, I can never do a serious look because I look like i’m angry or annoyed. Even though I only included a few pictures from my archive, trust me, there are many many more.

I’ve compiled a list of responses I get or scenarios that I have been in because of my RBF:

1. People are surprised to find out that I actually am a funny person.
2. People think I’m unapproachable when I go out.
3. My face hurts at the end of the day from trying to use my fake face.
4. People ask, “Are you sure you’re okay? “Are you mad at me.”I really thought you did not like me when I first met you.” ” Are you bored?”” Are you having a fun time?
5. I have to explain that I’m not mad, angry, bored, frustrated, or sad. That’s just the way my face is.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Disclaimer: I am not taking myself seriously in this post.

I can completely relate to this! Sometimes I hate seeing candid photos of myself because even if I’m having the time of my life it doesn’t always show on my face. I can see how it can be perceived as unapproachable but it’s so tiring to constantly think to keep a smile on.

You would be surprised at how many people have said that they have it too! I read somewhere that is it hereditary! Yikes!

I have gotten the exact same response from people. I’ve been told that I looked “stuck up” or “mad” or give of a “don’t talk to me” vibe when people first met me. Then they say “once I got to know you, you were so funny and fun to be around!”

I feel like I should wear a shirt that says “I’m happy, fun, caring, and love to laugh…I just don’t look like it.” Maybe it should say “this is my RBF face.” What do you think? Next big thing? 🙂

Ha things would be easier if we had a shirt that said that!

My resting bitchface got so bad that I now walk around with a small smile on my face because people thought I was constantly glaring at them. Now I just look like a psycho who smiles at everyone.

Is there a male equivalent for resting mad face? because I feel like its another one of those things where men can look as approachable or unapproachable as they want!

OMG. My sister and I had the same exact conversation. I definitely suffer from the SBF syndrome. C’est la vie!

I get this all the time!! I’m easy to get along with but always get told I look mad and that I need to smile more. I’m rarely in a bad mood, usually it’s just my face! Haha I cant help it! :-/
